The Cranston Police Department is attempting to identify a suspect responsible for an armed robbery that occurred at the Pontiac Food Mart, 527 Pontiac Avenue, on Friday, 9/9/2017 at approximately 8 AM. The suspect entered the store and threatened the clerk as if he had a gun. The suspect’s right hand was wrapped up in cloth material as he alluded to the clerk that he had a gun under the cloth.
The suspect fled the store toward Chestnut Avenue (south) with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, medium complexion, average weight and height (5’8”-5”10”). The suspect appears to be 20-30 years of age with short brown hair, with a goatee and several days growth on the rest of his face. The suspect was wearing a distinctive multi-colored sweater/shirt with green, red, yellow, blue and black vertical stripes. He was also wearing a dark colored baseball hat with light colored writing/insignia on the front, dark colored pants, and dark colored sneakers. The suspect fled the scene in a 2017 four door Honda color gray.
On Wednesday, 9/13/2017, Cranston Police were involved in a vehicle pursuit with the same suspect vehicle involved in this robbery. The pursuit ended in the city of Providence where three suspects fled from the car and were not apprehended. The car had been stolen from Silko Honda in Raynham, Massachusetts.
IDENTIFIED:
A suspect was developed in the theft of the car. He has been identified as:
MICHAEL GONZALEZ (35), with a last known address in Fall River, MA.
GONZALEZ was also identified as being involved in a home invasion in Cranston on 9/11/2017. An arrest warrant has been issued in that case.
CAPTURED:
On Friday, 9/15/17, GONZALEZ was apprehended in Taunton, MA, by members of the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force. The other suspects remain unidentified.
